REPRODUCTIVE MEDICINE

Avivo Health Group provides advanced assisted conception care and medical and surgical treatment facilities to males and females afflicted with infertility.

We perform the assessment and subsequent prognosis and treatment of both male and female infertility conditions. Infertility in females may be caused by the failure to ovulate, blocked fallopian tubes, endometriosis (the lining of endometrial tissues growing outside of the uterus) or due to ageing. Infertility in males is characterized by a low number of overall or healthy sperms, and low motility rate (poor sperm movement).

Reproductive Medicine Services are offered from the following centres of AVIVO Group:

We provide a whole range of infertility solutions in our clinics and hospitals in the UAE, creating subjective course of action that depends on the patient’s clinical features and personal requirements. This is based on a thorough consultation, understanding the patient’s lifestyle and supported by tests.

We offer a broad range of male and female infertility evaluation techniques to determine the exact reason behind the couple’s inability to conceive. Some of these tests are:

  • Semen Analysis – for the procedure of semen analysis, a man is asked to provide his semen specimen which is analyzed to examine the characteristics of the sperm therein. These characteristics can classify as the health of the sperms and the count of their number.
  • Testicular Biopsy – this procedure involves the collection of a small sample of testicular tissue through a small incision. The examination of testicular tissue helps a doctor determine the cause of abnormal sperm production.
  • Hormone Testing –  Test for hormones are performed to determine the hormonal causes of both male and female infertility. This process calls for a blood sample that is tested for levels of testosterone in men and ovulatory and pituitary hormones in women.
  • Hysterosalpingography – this evaluation procedure uses the X-Ray technique to examine a female’s reproductive structures; the uterus and the fallopian tubes. Any blockages in the fallopian tubes will be determined during this technique.
  • Ovarian Reserve Testing – a test in women to determine the number of eggs in their ovaries available for ovulation.
  • Hysteroscopy – a procedure whereby a thin device is inserted through a female’s cervix to check for uterine diseases.
  • Laparoscopy – a minimally invasive surgical procedure to examine a female’s uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes. This procedure helps our doctor identify irregularities, scarring or blockages in the fallopian tubes, problems with the ovaries and the uterus or conditions like endometriosis.

Avivo Health Group offers a range of Services for Assisted Conception that includes:

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

IVF is a complex technique comprising of a series of time-consuming and invasive procedures. To summarize, IVF assists with the conception of a child via the retrieval of eggs from a woman’s ovaries and fertilizing it by a sperm, inside a test tube in a lab. Subsequently, the fertilized eggs and hence, the embryos are transferred inside the woman’s uterus.

Assisted Reproductive Technology introduces the procedure of IVF as the most effective process. During IVF, eggs and sperms are used of the expecting couple or may involve a known or an anonymous donor, depending on the cause of infertility. IVF usually involves the implantation of more than one embryo which may result in multiple pregnancies.

Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection sometimes accompanies the procedure of IVF when the outer layer of the egg is hard to penetrate or the sperm lacks in motility. In conditions like these, ICSI is performed during the procedure of IVF; a sperm cell is directly injected inside the egg’s cytoplasm and allowed to fertilize to form an embryo, which as per the procedure of IVF is transferred into the woman’s uterus.

Sperm Retrieval Procedures (PESA and TESA)

Some men experience a condition named Azoospermia, which is characterized by the absence of sperm cells during ejaculation. The lack of sperms can be caused by problems in sperm production or the obstructed flow of semen during ejaculation.

Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (PESA) is a procedure whereby a doctor aspirates fluid from the head of the epididymis (a structure behind male testis along which the sperm passes) through inserting a needle. The sperm cells from the fluid are then retrieved to be prepared for ISCI.

Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA) is a similar procedure as PESA whereby a needle is inserted in the testis to aspirate fluid. The sperm cells are then extracted to be sent for ICSI.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) of the Sperm

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a technique of artificial insemination used to treat infertility whereby the sperm indirectly placed inside a woman’s uterus to increase the chances of sperms reaching the fallopian tubes, hence, facilitating fertilization.

IUI is effective in conditions like hostile cervical diseases, ejaculation dysfunction or decreased sperm number and mortality. However, with underlying problems of infertility that go beyond the difficulty of sperm entrance during intercourse must require other conception assistances.

Ovulation Induction

Ovulation Induction therapy represents a non-invasive medical fertility treatment that involves the prescription of specific medicines to regulate the process of ovulation or to increase the production of eggs after each reproductive cycle. This treatment will increase the chance of conception and pregnancy.

Frozen Embryo Replacement

Frozen Embryo Replacement is a procedure that involves the use of frozen embryos (preserved spare embryos from previous IVF treatments) and their replacement in a woman’s uterine cavity. A woman’s menstrual cycle is closely monitored to implant a thawed embryo inside her uterus exactly around 3-5 days after the day of ovulation.
